Community Hospital’s annual Tour of the Valley bike ride is back and better than ever! This year’s TOV includes a century ride over the Colorado National Monument, and other routes of 15, 30, & 50 miles. The cost to participate in the event is $45 for adults and $20 for kids under 14, which includes continental breakfast, hot post-ride meal, rest stop refreshments, and a TOV t-shirt. PLEASE NOTE REGISTRATION CLOSES TODAY.
Location/Course
All tours are just for fun. This is not a race. Set your own pace and enjoy beautiful Colorado West. Registration fee is $45 (no pledges to raise!). Children 14 and under are only $20. Your fee includes it all, breakfast, designer T-shirt, rest stop snacks, post ride meal, great prizes, and other craziness set to music at the DoubleTree Hotel. Please thank and support our sponsors; their assistance allows us to maintain a very reasonable registration fee.

The staging area for all rides and post-ride activities are the fine facilities of the DOUBLETREE HOTEL of GRAND JUNCTION. All riders will begin and end their trek from this location, 743 Horizon Drive.

For those riding the FAMILY FITNESS 15 or 30-mile routes, you will meander out of town heading east towards Fruita. There will be a rest stop at Canyon View Park where you may choose to head back to the hotel and complete the 15 mile, or venture on to complete the 30- mile route. A rest stop in Fruita will be the turnaround point for the 30-mile riders. Parents please ride with children that require supervision to complete the event safely.

For the 50 and 100-mile riders, warm up as you ride out of town heading east toward the majestic Bookcliffs, cruising the quiet country roads on the way to Palisade. It will be a relief to know that your first rest stop is only about 15 miles into the ride at Grande River Vineyards.

After your refreshing stop in Palisade, where you will enjoy those famous peaches, you travel out to the vineyards and then up over the scenic route of east Orchard Mesa. Your next rest stop is at the Eagle Rim Park, where you join the bike trail to cross the Colorado River. The 50-mile riders turn off the bike path at a parking lot close to 25 Road and head back to the DoubleTree Hotel.

The 100-mile course routes you OVER the Colorado National Monument (Monument). Rising 2000 feet above the Grand Valley of the Colorado River, this is a very challenging ride. Please note the Monument has established NEW traffic enforcement measures on Rim Rock Drive. This means bicyclists will be closely monitored as they travel through Monument to ensure they follow the below new requirements for cyclists. Any bicyclist who shows up to the entrance of the Monument, without proper lighting (white light in front and a red light in back), will be turned away by the Rangers. See the Colorado National Monument website for more information.

  1. Bicyclists are required to have visible white lights in the front and red lights from the rear when riding through tunnels;

  2. Ride single-file along right side of traffic lane and allow motorists to pass;

  3. Bicyclists are encouraged to wear brightly colored & reflective clothing;

  4. Bicyclists are encouraged to wear helmets;

  5. Obey posted speed limits;

  6. Stop completely at all stop signs.

Your way back to the DoubleTree Hotel is a scenic and relatively flat ride through the town and farmlands of Fruita. We will have a rest stop after you exit the Monument in the town of Fruita (at the Fruita Chamber). There will be no rest stops along the Monument, but water is available at the Visitor’s Center.
